[edit] USB 1.1 Identification

Windows XP Only
You can tell if you have just plugged your DS-X into a USB 1.1 port if you get a message similar to this appearing on your computer

All operating systems
Alternativly open your computer's device manager and look in the USB section, if you USB ports are described as "enhanced" then they are USB 2.0 (source)

If you get an error similar to this check to make sure you have internet access and no firewall blocking port 80.

This is caused by trying to run an older version of the update tool.

[edit] The Semaphore Timeout Period has Expired

Normally caused by trying to use USB 1.1 or having other USB devices still plugged into your computer.

[edit] I/O device error

Normally cased by the updater not being able to write to the DS-X (some computer manufactures use non standard 'replies' for their USB ports). To resolve, try some of all of these:

  • Run the updater using the USB ports on the back of your computer
  • Ensure you are using USB 2.0 ports (how to tell)
  • Disable any USB hubs the computer has
  • Run the updater on another computer
  • Replace the USB cable with another one
